Work With Me: Contract and Fractional CTO

Available for Outside IR35 contracts and Fractional CTO work. Recent engagements, live OwaspHeaders.Core and Modern .NET Show figures, and case studies.

I’m Jamie Taylor. I help engineering teams adopt AI coding agents without lowering the bar on quality, and I write a good share of the code myself while I do it. Since June 2025 that has meant introducing Claude Code to a team that didn’t want it, building a healthcare claims rules engine with an agent driving, and joining a founder’s AI-built platform as its first engineer.

If someone sent you this link, the availability section below answers what recruiters usually ask first. Everything after it is evidence: the headline figures link to their sources, and each engagement names the client I worked for.

Glaicier

Agentic and full-stack engineering consultantJuly 2026 to present

Glaicier's founder used AI coding agents to build Novalysis, a Microsoft 365 data-governance and migration platform for UK healthcare and public-sector organisations. I joined as its first software engineer, with a brief to end the platform's dependence on one person. The engagement grew from two to three days a week within the first week.

  • Traced 72% of all error telemetry (197,645 traces in one week) to a database connection pool closed under running sync loops, which had also been silently dropping group memberships.
  • Hardened continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) across 53 GitHub Actions workflows, so infrastructure and code now deploy from the same release tag.
  • Wrote 114 issues for an automated Claude Code fix pipeline and reviewed the agents’ pull requests; the agents shipped 27 of them.

Novalysis no longer depends on one person.

TypeScript, Next.js, React, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Bicep, PowerShell 7, GitHub Actions, Claude Code

Bossie Hurley

Agentic engineering consultantAugust to October 2026

My second contract with Bossie Hurley, for a US member-owned healthcare cooperative. The work was its claims rules engine: the rules that decide whether a member's claim is approved automatically or needs a person to look at it. Every feature went through Spec Kit, with an AI agent driving and me navigating.

  • Built four generic rule types and the rules for three of the cooperative’s products, across 16 features.
  • Kept the engine to two outcomes, approve or route to a person, and removed the last path that could deny a claim automatically.
  • Found continuous integration passing while 66 of 1,264 test files never ran, then added 1,512 test cases.

Sixteen features delivered in under six weeks.

TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, TypeORM, Spec Kit

Bossie Hurley

Software engineering consultantOctober 2025 to May 2026

Designed and built, from the ground up, a cloud-native reporting platform for one of Bossie Hurley's global enterprise SaaS clients. The brief asked for something rare: new report types and changed logic that ship without a deployment.

  • Every report’s filters, groupings and calculated metrics live as configuration, evaluated at runtime, so a new report is a configuration change.
  • Split orchestration and PDF rendering into independent containerised services on Azure Container Apps, with no runtime secrets.
  • Drove the build test-first across unit, integration, contract and regression suites.

The team ships new reports without shipping software.

.NET 10, ASP.NET Core, Azure Container Apps, Cosmos DB, Playwright, xUnit

Ligentia

Technology consultant, AI tooling and developer productivityJune 2025 to April 2026

Ligentia's Chief Information Officer (CIO) brought me in to introduce AI development tooling to a team with no prior AI experience, and a healthy scepticism about it. The work was as much cultural as technical.

  • Evaluated the options with the Director of Engineering, chose Claude Code, and ran a structured pilot with the Head of Automation.
  • Ran weekly lunch-and-learns where developers shared their own findings, which did more for adoption than any top-down push.
  • On the proving-ground project, the full architecture for a three-month scope was in place within the first month.

Feature delivery improved by 75%, measured on the team’s own DevOps Research and Assessment (DORA) dashboards.

“Within a week of him working with us, he had already identified five different areas for improvement, given two inspiring talks, and created a handful of engaging demos, all leading to almost immediate ROI.”

Boris Rabkin, CIO, Ligentia

Claude Code, GitHub Spec Kit

CreateFuture

Senior software engineering consultantJune 2024 to April 2025

Development consultancy across two CreateFuture client projects: an online gaming company and the world's largest aviation data aggregator.

  • Helped both clients move from on-premises-only hosting to the cloud, which raised throughput and lowered running costs.
  • Worked across modern .NET, JavaScript and TypeScript, database design, DevOps pipelines and multi-cloud support.

.NET, TypeScript, SQL, DevOps, multi-cloud

Williams Racing

Software development consultantMay 2023 to February 2024

A solo engagement on a project with serious code-quality and release-cadence problems. The codebase was about five years old, had no tests, and very few people in the business knew how it worked.

  • Documented how the code worked, and added integration tests for known good inputs and expected outputs.
  • Added metrics and logging, because there was almost no visibility into which parts of the codebase were in use.

.NET, Entity Framework Core, WPF, ASP.NET Core

Also: Technical reviewer for two Packt books: <em>Modern Distributed Tracing in .NET</em> (2023) and <em>Implementing Event-driven Microservices Architecture in .NET 7</em> (2023).

Questions recruiters ask

10 questions

How do you work?

Through my limited company, RJJ Software Ltd, and only on engagements determined to be Outside IR35. I’m happy to go through a status determination with you or your client, and I’d expect one for any contract role.

What kind of roles are you looking for?

Contract roles where AI-assisted or agentic development is part of the job, full-stack engineering roles, and Fractional CTO engagements for smaller businesses. What they have in common is a team that wants to ship faster without its quality slipping.

Which languages and platforms do you work with?

Mostly .NET and TypeScript over the last couple of years, alongside Python, Ruby, Go and JavaScript. Azure is the cloud I know best, and GitHub Actions is where most of my continuous integration work happens. I’ve also hosted a podcast about .NET since 2018.

Remote, hybrid or on site?

Remote or hybrid is my preference. I’m based in Leeds, and on site is negotiable, depending on where and how often.

How soon can you start, and for how many days a week?

I’m available now for three days a week, and five days a week from 1 December 2026. The date at the top of the availability section is when I last confirmed that.

Do you work with recruiters and agencies?

Yes. If you’re putting me forward, send this page along with my profile. Every figure under “Numbers at a glance” links to its source, so your client can check them for themselves.

What does "agentic development" mean in practice?

An AI coding agent writes most of the code, and an engineer decides what gets built, reviews what comes back and owns the result. On my last contract every feature went through Spec Kit, with the agent driving and me navigating. I’ve written about how that works in Agentic Development Foundations.

Can you work with US teams?

Yes. From the UK I can almost fully overlap with East Coast working hours, and give six hours or more of overlap with the West Coast. Both of my contracts with Bossie Hurley, a US company, were delivered remotely from Leeds.

What are your rates?

On request. They depend on the shape of the engagement: how many days a week, for how long, and whether it’s hands-on delivery or technical leadership.

Can I speak to a past client?

References are available on request. Boris Rabkin, Ligentia’s Chief Information Officer, is quoted above, and the case studies name the people I worked with wherever the client has agreed to it.

Hiring for your own business?

If you run a business rather than recruit for one, the work looks a little different. As a Fractional CTO I help with the technology decisions a growing company keeps putting off: what to build and what to buy, how to bring AI into a team without letting quality slip, and who to hire next.

What I do has the detail, including the fixed-price reviews and workshops that make a lower-commitment way to start.

Put me forward, or talk to me first

Thirty minutes is usually enough to tell whether a role fits. Bring the job spec or the problem, and I'll tell you honestly whether I'm the right person for it.
